About

Carolyn Oulton PortraitI am an academic, poet and biographer, three good excuses to spend long periods in the nineteenth century. I live in the East Kent countryside with my husband and two children, just far enough from the sea to become strangely excited every time I get near it.

Most likely to say: In spe spiro (my family motto, which translated means something faintly irrational like ‘While in hope I breathe’). Most likely to be told: ‘You’re not very patient, are you?’ when I can’t fathom how the technology works which they swore was going to help me.
